As a third grade teacher in Florida my goals were to teach every child with excellence as the standard, differentiating instruction, to meet the needs for every student based on where they were and where they needed to be as readers and learners.
This is really not that different than helping people with their real estate goals. This endeavor has proven to be similarly rewarding and challenging as my main goal is helping my clients achieve their real estate goals with excellence as a standard. The people I have the pleasure of serving are at various levels of expertise in the real estate industry. The best part for me is helping others whether that is being a resource for a handyman, contractor, inspector, or helping them find their next property. This along, with creating wealth for our clients is our TEAM goal.
When I was a teacher it was extremely important that I reminded myself often why I was working so hard, sometimes the results don't show themselves for weeks or even months. From the beginning of my career, I had an awesome administrator (principal) that we will call Mrs. C who talked regularly about how vital it was for me to "fill my cup" - this is a lesson which I continue to remember.
Monday, I had the pleasure of reading with 3rd graders at a local elementary school in Edmonds. For anyone who knows me literacy is a HUGE passion of mine.
Tuesday, I had an inspiring conversation with the wife of someone I spoke with months ago about a "for sale by owner" property. The thing is - I confused two people with the same first names and thier respective properties - thankfully- after all, this property will probably be a great fit for one of our clients. The person on the phone ended up sharing with me how she had a 1% chance of surviving the brain cancer she was diagnosed with about 10 years ago. Her family was told she had 2-3 weeks to live. Her story was SO moving. We had a talk about life and how perspectives can shift so quickly. I'll leave it at that - that is her story, not mine. I hope one day I can thank her in person for sharing her story with me.
Wednesday, one appointment ran over, which caused me to have to reschedule another appointment. From here we decided to view the land owned by the couple I spoke with Tuesday. On the way home, I made an impromptu stop at Trader Joe's in Lynnwood - somehow I had still never been in one! Finally heading home, later than I would have and smiling about a successful week thus far, I noticed that there was a car stalled on the side of the road. I decided to pull over and help push the car. It was an older, well kept car, with people that reminded me of my grandparents when I was younger, even their car did honestly. I chuckled thinking how funny I must have looked pushing their car into the Stadium Flowers parking lot in Edmonds in my business atire and heels. I am grateful that I was not pushing up hill. We get in to the parking lot of the flower shop and I offer the use of my cell phone for them to call someone to come help. No one answers either phone, understandably so, as the number is not recognized. I text the couple's son and then they redial their daughter-in-law, who after the first call has googled my number. The woman, "J", gets off the phone with her daughter in law and says, "Are you in real estate?" and I ask, "How did you know?" only to learn that her daughter in law looked up my number and it came up as a Real Estate agent. Prior to their children arriving we had a lovely conversation found out we live just three houses down from each other (which by the way is about a mile and a half from where the car stalled).
They told me I was their angel. What they don't know is that they were a couple who truly filled my cup. One thing led to another. I will go back and preview the property that I did not get to earlier this evening and I am so grateful that I was unable to this evening as I was available to help this couple, who it turns out are also my neighbors.
Happy Wednesday! (click here to visit our facebook page :-)
