I have to admit, since relocating to the Seattle area from Florida last June, my husband Jeff and I often have conversations that contain these phrases...
"It's not really
that cloudy here.".... "It doesn't really rain
ALL the time." ...."We actually get
more inches of rain
in Florida." - which is true, by the way.
My favorite might be, "
It rains a lot here is the urban myth spread so people won't relocate to the area."
Hints that my typically optimistic view on life was carrying over to my view on Seattle weather include the sunburn I experienced at lunch with my Dad and his fiance' Jaye at lunch on a February trip home to Florida, something that would not have happened during my years of living in Florida, defending the Seattle weather to friends with any of the forementioned statements or sharing my new vocabulary word - sunbreaks - with my friends in Florida and realizing that this was a word that snuck itself into my vocuabulary at some point in the last year, that was foreign to them, the kids getting in the car after school to tell me that it was too warm for their jackets at 58 degrees! The most telling of all is feeling the need to go outside RIGHT NOW, even in my bathrobe to feel the warmth of the sun on my face is a new instinct that I have learned since being in the Great Northwest.
The truth is there could be a cool breeze on my face even though the sun is shining.
Well, after a reportedly mild winter and frequent sunny days last week we had a few days of gray, which makes this next three days of Sunshine seem
like bliss...and now I get it: when mother nature shares these days of sunshine with us, it makes the next set of cloudy days seem more gloomy than relaxing.
The good news is this week we are experiencing a "mini spring heatwave" - seriously that's what the meteorologist just reported for this week's weather forecast. Temperatures will reach 70 degrees on Wednesday! I hope it is not too warm for us!
